The commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death will be one of the guiding threads of the thirteenth edition of Milano Arte Musica, international festival of early music. It will be an opportunity to see Leonardo from a musical perspective, both as the musician – and perhaps composer – he himself was, and through the most significant exponents of music that Leonardo had the opportunity to get to know in the Milan of Sforza.“On the notes of Leonardo” begins with three days of music dedicated to Leonardo’s life in Milan: the students of the Ancient Music Institute of the Civic School of Milan “C. Abbado” will perform programs inspired by Leonardo’s Bestiary, by the profane repertoire transmitted by the Basevi Codex 2441 and, finally, one dedicated to Franchino Gaffurio and the choirmasters of the Duomo at the time of Leonardo.Leonardo also designed several instruments: from the most famous mechanical drum to the viola organista, to the organetto (manuscript sheet 75r from Codex Madrid II), reconstructed in 2012 by the organ-builder Walter Chinaglia and the musician Guillermo Pérez. The organetto will be the protagonist of the concert “Da Vinci project”, a program of French and Italian music, with harp and viola d’arco.Still about the music during the Milan of Leonardo, “The representation of invisible things” could not be left out. In this program, the lutenist Massimo Lonardi and the soprano Renata Fusco present the “musical rebuses” of Leonardo da Vinci, preserved in the Windsor collection, together with other pieces from the Italian Renaissance.
