The exhibition, curated by Annalisa Perissa Torrini, is the first event organized by the Pedretti Foundation and it is dedicated to Carlo Pedretti, the scholar who, more than any other specialists, has studied Leonardo da Vinci in depth spreading his knowledge in Italy and the world. To him, we owen the idea, about a decade ago, to enhance the thirty-one engravings of Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1667), which he acquired in the fifties as a rare evidence of interest for Leonardo’s drawings in the seventeenth century and as an important vehicle for the study and diffusion of Leonardo’s caricatures and grotesque drawings. The engravings, on display for the first time, are the ‘first states’, i.e. works drawn directly by the artist. This is the first exhibition dedicated to Hollar’s engravings in Italy.
