FROM THE WORK OF LEONARDO DA VINCI TO THE YOUTH SERIES OF THE UFFIZI
Retracing the facts of the Battle of Anghiari in an unusual way.An exhibition that looks at the Italian fifteenth century with the aim of highlighting the political and military dynamics and the relationship between the main protagonists and the organs of government. A historical and visual dialogue that tells the public about the politics of “the state” during the period of the Battle of Anghiari. The relationships both personal and in statesmanship between Cosimo il Vecchio, Eugenio IV, Neri Capponi, Niccolò Piccinino, Filippo Maria Visconti and Francesco Sforza, visually told through their portraits, provides the ideal means of understanding the exceptional nature of the artistic event of “The Battle of Anghiari”.In this context Leonardo’s work proves to be very efficient at highlighting the “discordia, o vo’ dire pazzia bestialissima” (discord, or to say the brutal madness), brought to light in two great masterpieces: the great sixteenth century canvas “Episode of the Battle of Anghiari” in the Horne Museum in Florence and the celebrated Tavola Doria.
